The Exsanguinator's Brigands

This was a lighter session, we were a player down, there was a lot of goofing off and having fun at the table, and I was hot so I wasn’t on my A game. Leaving Eld’yedith upon the road the wind was fierce, it echoed through the needles of the pines. From the south a voice boomed out “We have you surrounded, and you have two options: give us your money or die. You are dealing with Zssath the exsanguinator” Drash quickly scanned the trees to the south “I can see four hiding in the bushes” he whispered. Roddy piped up “You better reconsider, we have another group coming just behind us.” All they heard in response was a laugh. “I said your money or your life.” An arrow flew past Roddy, hitting into the side of the cart. Amyl wasted no time, swooping up the little muranian as he yelled “And why should we be afraid of you? You can’t even shoot right” They worked Giuseppe the mule as fast as they could, hauling them all in a cart as a barrage of arrow rained down, the first four ...

Caverns of Thracia Covers for Home Printing

Image
I have been wanting my own version of The Caverns of Thracia to hold in my hands. There is technically the OAR version released by goodman games but it has a few problems. The first problem is that the book is mostly not The Caverns of Thracia, to read through the original version of the text you need to skip past a bunch of essays about how cool the dungeon is (including one by fucking Mike Merles), and then ignore the back half of the book that is all the conversion to either 5e or DCC. My second problem is that it’s a massive hardcover book that is not super portable, and is too expensive for me to be buying right now. The final albeit more minor complaint is that goodman release has a black and white color. So I am gonna walk you through what I am gonna do to make my own version of the Caverns of Thracia that fixes all those problems. Step 1 PDFs Goodman games currently own the distribution rights to the dungeon, and as such the legal way to acquire a PDF will be by buying...

The Entire Town

Image
The fungal creatures' backs begin to shift, overlapping chitin plates open up as a pair of wings burst from their backs. They fly out into the perpetual daylight. The group can’t make it up in time, they are unable The group explores the silo. Amyl finds a motion detection camera near the stairs and nicks it for faerself. Caulder begins to dismantle the computer and salvages 4 CPUs, 4 GPUs, and 20 hard drives. Exploring some more Caulder goes down to the pellet pit and notices the creature Drashed had knocked in was slowly bleeding out. They tried to communicate but it was a cold nothing in response, just dead round circular eyes. Caulder put a dagger through it’s head in an act of mercy. Back in town they deliver the good news to Toos, the old man that goaded them into destroying the facility. He was to send word of the reclamation of Baalmarath to the diaspora in Ux Qorath and the new barons departed. Soon they found themselves in the village of Tov-Pylos. A man in bright bl...

Barons of Rot

Saying goodbye to their nomadic compatriots the group heads north. Heading knorthward along the road. Soon after crossing over a bridge a foul smell began to assault the noses of the the party, Jezebelle the owl scouted ahead, seeing steel chimneys blasting green fumes into the air. Marching along the full extent of it becomes clear, a quarter of the fields of this village have rotted away into nothing. Mekinnimi began her chant, and with it her nose grew an inch outwards, inhaling deeply she recognized something in the air, past the smell of rotting wood soaked in vinegar, the smell of energy cores being used; it was a factory. Soon they found themselves walking into the town through the open wooden palisades. It was a shell. Obviously built to hold triple the amount of people it now houses, it’s a ghost town. The only soul they could find was an old man with a large moustache and lots of warts, holding a bushel of lumpy root vegetables. Caulder approached simply asked “What...

Against Replicability

just something I have been stewing on for a bit I do not value a consistent and replicable experience the most. I do not. Every few years or so the british internet will suddenly remember ISO 3103 and get miffed “Oh this isn’t the best way to make tea” and yeah they are right, but the point isn’t that it’s good it’s that it is replicable. You can follow the instructions and get the same cup of tea. It’s fine for what it is. It’s fine for science, it is not fine for art. RPGs are two forms of art that exist on two separate levels. There is the art of the book, and the art of the game. The book is the text used to negotiate the framework to understand the events of the game. The game is what happens at the table. The game (unless in very specific “AP” style game a la Critical Role) is a form of folk art. The book is sometimes folkart, hastily assembled in google docs, stapled together so on and so forth, things in the DIY sphere I typically run in. However, overwhelmingly it is no...

Damage Matrices for Old D&D

Image
I made this because I like damage matrices and I made sure to keep the average damage the same with each weapon. Damage modifiers are applied after the damage is rolled, and not to the d6 roll itself. PDF for Home Printing
