Caverns of Thracia Covers for Home Printing

I have been wanting my own version of The Caverns of Thracia to hold in my hands. There is technically the OAR version released by goodman games but it has a few problems. The first problem is that the book is mostly not The Caverns of Thracia, to read through the original version of the text you need to skip past a bunch of essays about how cool the dungeon is (including one by fucking Mike Merles), and then ignore the back half of the book that is all the conversion to either 5e or DCC. My second problem is that it’s a massive hardcover book that is not super portable, and is too expensive for me to be buying right now. The final albeit more minor complaint is that goodman release has a black and white color.

So I am gonna walk you through what I am gonna do to make my own version of the Caverns of Thracia that fixes all those problems.

Step 1 PDFs

Goodman games currently own the distribution rights to the dungeon, and as such the legal way to acquire a PDF will be by buying their PDF that contains the original and their essays and conversions. This is a scan with minimal edits, the only main difference is getting rid of her deadname in the front.

What you wanna do is open up that PDF and pull up your printer options, you can then save individual pages you want to isolate (pg 35 to 113)

Step 2 Choosing A Cover

I remade the cover in higher res with her name on it. I then made a bunch of color variations. I then asked a few other artists, including Goran Gilgović, Jo’iinn, and Kalin Kadiev to do their own illustration. Here they are (the color variations are in the folder to save space).

You can take these images and with your PDF combiner of choice you can make one single pdf to print.

Step 3 Getting Ready for Printing

If you have a nice home printer you can just print off the cover and the pdf you obtained you are pretty much done. You can just print this all and put it in a three ring binder or something. Otherwise you should find a local print shop and see their options for printing booklets.I would recommend getting it spiral bound but that’s just me.

So unfortunately all of this stuff is formatted for letter stuff so if you don’t live in the USA you are a little bit out of luck for getting stuff printed at a local print shop or at home, but there are still sites that you can order a one off book from that you can use. While I’d love to provide an A4 version of this book the scan does not have optically character recognized text so, I’m not gonna hand transcribe the entire book and then recreate it in a slightly taller and skinnier format.

Just some post script stuff. Obviously big props to all the artists who agreed to help me out, they made these knowing they would be used for home printing so be normal and just use it for home game stuff.
